Cultural Programs
The Center's Cultural Programming Department envisions a world where the voices, artistic imaginations and theatrical aspirations of LGBT people define and interpret the world around us. Through a combination of readings and lectures by celebrated and aspiring authors, visual art exhibits, musical and lyrical shows, dances and interactive entertainment, culture at the Center has welcomed new and emerging artists, established but often underappreciated performers, the famous and the infamous into our home to bedazzle and amuse, provoke and challenge audiences. Development
The Development Department raises the majority of the funds that support and sustain the Center through special events, membership fees, major donor contributions, grants from private and corporate foundations and corporate sponsorship and marketing opportunities. The department is also responsible for managing the strategic assessment initiatives that provide assistance for the Center's mission and overall direction. See staff in this department.
Finance
The Finance Department is responsible for managing and accounting for all of the financial transactions that sustain the Center, including the overall financial accountability of the Center, accounts payable, accounts receivable, government contracts, overseeing the independent audit and collecting the fees from user groups and our permanent tenant, SAGE. Our information desk, located in the main lobby, is there to assist the public with any number of questions they may have about New York City's LGBT community. I&R staff are also responsible for dealing with any disturbances among members of the public that may arise as well as making sure that the entire Center environment is safe and secure. Meeting & Conference Services And Capital Projects
Meeting and Conference Services is one of the many community-building programs at the Center charged with helping Center staff as well as members of our public plan the space and other logistic needs for holding events, forums, parties, political events, weddings, or any number of cultural events including bingo and Center dances. Renting space at the Center is a great organizing tool, and Meeting and Conference Services staff help arrange space needs, equipment rentals and event-planning assistance. They also help arrange for free listings in Center Happenings, on the Center's website, and in Coming Up! for all events. See staff in this department.

Adult Services includes all mental health and social service programs, activities and services available for adult Center clients, including Center CARE, Center CARE Recovery, the Lesbian Cancer Initiative, HIV/AIDS services, the LGBT SmokeFree Project, the Gender Identity Project and the Center Training Institute. Organizational Development, Planning & Research
The Organizational Development, Planning and Research Department was established in February 2002 when Dr. Barbara Warren moved from her director's post at the Center's Mental Health & Social Services department to become its director. This department is involved with several innovative projects that include a research component, meaning the projects' effectiveness will be measured and evaluated, and developing new programs and services that point to new emerging needs in our community. See staff in this department.
Public Policy & Government Relations
An important aspect of the Center's mission is to act as an engine for social change. This work is reflected in the programs of the Center's Public Policy & Government Relations Department. Since its formation in 1994, the Public Policy department has integrated a progressive vision into the work of the Center and into the larger LGBT movement. What distinguishes this department from other public policy institutions, however, is its location within a vibrant community center. Programs within this department include: Center Kids, the Center's family program; Causes in Common, a coalition building project bringing together activists from the LGBT Liberation movement and the Reproductive Justice Movement; and Promote the Vote, a nonpartisan grassroots outreach project dedicated to creating a visible and vocal voting constituency for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and its allies.
