Position Title: Lesbian Cancer Initiative Promotions Intership

Position Summary: The Lesbian Cancer Initiative (LCI) is currently accepting applications for a stipend-paid part-time peer intern beginning in winter 2011/2012 and continuing for nine months to one year. The LCI Peer Internship seeks to facilitate the development of peer-identified providers offering and promoting social services, health and wellness programming to lesbians, bisexual women and transgender communities of color. In particular, this internship would focus on promoting cancer prevention, early detection and education services and social services programming to lesbian, bisexual & transgender (LBT) Communities of Color, through both the delivery of workshops and the development of educational and promotional materials.
LCI Peer Interns are part of the LCI workgroup—a team consisting of social workers, interns and other peer and professional facilitators and counselors. The internship integrates supervision and training with practical skill development in cancer-related LBT cultural competency, outreach, education and community organizing.
Who should apply: Anyone who views themselves as a peer to the community served by LCI, who is 18 or older as of their internship start date, and is interested in further developing peer–centered skills in program development and promotion, outreach and education. The internship runs for nine months to one year for 10 to 12 hours each week. The LCI’s Peer Internship is open to those considering further education and training, those already in school or training and those who are seeking a career change or part-time return to the workforce. Those with some experience in media, communications, outreach, community organizing are strongly encouraged to apply as are LBT People of Color, those with personal cancer experience, and those bilingual in Spanish/English.
10-12 hours/week
$12-17.50/hourly stipend depending on experience.
Peer interns are non-employees who are not eligible for any benefits outside of the hourly stipend.

Development Intern Area of Focus: Development / Fundraising
Classification: Intern/Volunteer (unpaid)
Reports to: Interim Director of Development
Position Summary: The NYC Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center is currently seeking an experienced public grant writing intern to assist the Center’s Community Services and Development departments with identifying/prospecting and applying for government (local, state and federal) funding opportunities, as well as writing associated reports.
Requirements: Qualified applicants will have a familiarity and record of success and accomplishment associated with government grant writing. The applicant must be willing to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines to become fluent in the services and programs that are offered and accurately assess community needs to identify appropriate funding streams. The applicant must also have a grounding in non-profit fundraising principles and practices; excellent communication skills; excellent interpersonal and team building skills; knowledge of, and commitment to, LGBT issues and communities.
