Womens Event 11

From: http://www.gaycenter.org/womensevent On November 1, 2008 the fabulous women of New York City will gather at Pier Sixty on the Hudson River for a gala evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing and a silent auction raising funds for the services the Center offers lesbian, bi and transgender women. This year they will be joined by cast members from the L word, so mark your calendars now for the must-attend event of the season.

Leather at the Center

http://www.gaycenter.org/out/ This fall, the Center partners with the 2nd Annual NYLW to offer you a weekend of art, film, dancing, mingling, a MR/MRS NYC Leather 2009 contest and more. Go to http://www.gaycenter.org/node/1585 for more information. Out at the Center dug into the archives to bring you some tantalizing footage from the Tom of Finland Foundation's erotic art fair of 2006 and a leather fetish fashion show from earlier this year. Enjoy!

On “LGBT issues”

These are “LGBT issues:”  the audience is asking pointed questions about faith-based initiatives, healthcare policy, death penalty, human and civil rights, whether or not any existing political parties have “earned” LGBT voters' support, a national AIDS strategy, the role of third parties in our existing political system and the war on drugs.  Our panelists are being put to the test and have commented that we've enriched the overall conversation and even raised specific issues with which they are unfamiliar.

Live from the presidential candidates' forum

Tonight we have Jinettte Caceres from the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Dan Schaffer from the Green Party and Tobias Wolff from the Democratic Party/Senator Obama’s National LGBT Policy Committee talking to us about their respective parties and positions and taking questions from the audience.  Our moderator, Richard Kim (associate editor at The Nation) is promising questions about the economic bailout currently under debate in the House, positions on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and, of course, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” same-sex marriage, the Employment Nondiscrimination Act, and many other issues critical to many in LGBT communities.

Presidential candidates forum tonight at the center!

Join us at our forum tonight at the center or online via webcast. Representatives from several campaigns will be joining us.
