Join the Impact Prop 8 Rally at City Hall NYC

From http://www.gaycenter.org/out Highlights from the Join the Impact Rally at City Hall in New York City on Saturday, Nov 15, 2008. 10,000 people with four days of organizing? Amazing! Kudos to the new, young activists. Be inspired. Take Action!

Transgender Basics

From http://www.gaycenter.org/gip Transgender Basics is a 20 minute educational film on the concepts of gender and transgender people. Two providers from the Gender Identity Project discuss basic concepts of gender, sexual orientation, identity and gender roles. Three transgender community members share their personal experiences of being trans and genderqueer. The film targets service providers and others working with the LGBT community, but it also provides a fascinating glimpse into gender and identity for the general public. “Our culture likes to make things simple, and gender isn't.” Carrie Davis, Transgender Community Organizer, in Transgender Basics. “It was the constant fight of me saying 'there is nothing wrong with being this kind of girl,' as oppose to, 'well, I'm not a girl.'” Nicco Beretta, participant in Transgender Basics. March for Marriage Equality Brooklyn Bridge Sept 2008

From http://www.gaycenter.org/advocacy/issues/prop8 Following the electoral outcomes on four ballot initiatives related to same-sex unions and adoption in California, Arizona, Arkansas and Florida the reaction from the LGBT community is building. Protests are finally starting in New York this week. Earlier this year, Marriage Equality New York sponsored their Fifth Annual Wedding March across the Brooklyn Bridge. This year the march happened in late summer instead of spring, and instead of rain there was sweltering sunshine for the thousands who gathered at City Hall Park to march across the Brooklyn Bridge. Here’s hoping that the continued work of our activists and elected officials will make New York the next state to officially recognize same-sex marriage.

Tens of thousands of our brothers and sisters are in the streets in California and Salt Lake City and around the country protesting the votes banning same-sex marriage in California.

Join them! Make your voices heard right here in New York City.

We will tell the Mormon Church how we feel about its relentless campaign to condemn and control our lives. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
was, by far, the biggest financer of California’s heinous and hateful
Proposition 8. The Mormon Church begged their members to donate money to Prop 8,
pouring 20 million dollars into the campaign. And their attacks on us didn’t start there and aren’t
about to end. They’re plotting right now to bring their money and influence to bear against the LGBT community everywhere in this country, including trying to prevent marriage equality in New York.

Join us in speaking out against hate and discrimination! Stop them taking away your rights!
