He was a writer for Soaps at the time Douglas Marland decided to introduce a gay character with the original idea of having him die of AIDS. At that point, John was upset & said "If that's the message you're sending to all the gay youth of America, I'm out of here." There was a Writer's strike & when John returned,Douglas said "You're right, John." The result was that John wrote much of the Hank story & Hank received the highest 'Q' rating of any actor on Daytime. Douglas also unbent to the point where he brought his lover to the next party. Hank continued to contribute designs for Barnara for the yearly AIDS benefit even after the actor keft the show. John & I were married on Sept. 1,after 49 years. Thought you'd want to know.
