MTV Real World Brooklyn’s Katelynn at Gender Identity Project Web Launch

From http://www.gaycenter.org/out The Center launched a new website for the Gender Identity Project or GIP at http://www.genderidentityproject.org/ MTV Real World Brooklyn housemate Katelynn Cusanelli interned at the Center and contributed her tech expertise to the construction of the new GIP website. Several housemates joined her to congratulate her efforts. The new GIP site includes profiles of individuals active in the transgender community, services GIP offers and a calendar of upcoming events. The site also features an online educational tool, Transgender Basics, with a glossary of terms, a video and employment information. Laverne Cox, who introduces this clip, is in the Transgender Basics video, was also on VH1’s I Want to Work for Diddy and is a long standing trans activist and Out at the Center host. From Shadows to Sunlight: First Year of LGBT Liberation After Stonewall

In June of 2008 several individuals who were active in the gay liberation movement of the late sixties and early seventies held a panel at the Center to share their experience. It was sponsored by Services and Advocacy for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Elders (SAGE). The program called ‘From the Shadows to the Sunlight’ focused on the first year of the LGBT movement from the Stonewall riots of 1969 to the Christopher Street Gay Liberation Day March in 1970. Stop the False Arrests of gay men by NYPD in Video Stores

Freedom to Marry Action Feb 12, 2009

Out at the Center covered the Freedom to Marry action at the Manhattan Marriage License Bureau on February 12, 2009. Several same-sex couples requested and were denied a license to marry.

MTV Real World at Braking the Cycle

From http://www.gaycenter.org/ On Wednesday, February 11, 2009 the Center made an appearance on an MTV Real World Brooklyn episode. Housemate JD Ordonez arrived at the Center with Katelynn and Sarah to start their internships. The first event that they and their housemates work on is the Center’s Braking the Cycle Aids Ride benefiting the HIV/AIDS services of the Center. At a viewing party at XES Lounge fellow housemates Scott and Baya arrive with Katelynn to view the episode with other Center supporters. They become members of the Center and Scott explains how he will do the ride this year and Baya will support him. The rest of the video looks at the closing ceremony from last year.
