MTV Real World Brooklyn’s Baya, JD and Scott at the Center

Housemates Baya, JD and Scott stopped by to talk to fans and tell us why they enjoyed volunteering at the Center. We’ll see more of Scott later this year when he rides with Braking the Cycle. MTV Real World Brooklyn’s Sarah Rice presents art exhibit at Center

From http://www.gaycenter.org/out Sarah Rice is a housemate on MTV’s Real World Brooklyn edition. She interned at the Center where she created and ran a free weekly art class called “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall…Self-Image Awareness through Art.” The class was dedicated to the creativity of the human spirit and the process of healing by exploring the experiences and expectations of self-image in today’s culture. After the class there was a reception where the students exhibited their work to friends, family and housemates. This video excerpt is from Out at the Center, a TV show and video podcast of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of New York City. MTV Real World Brooklyn’s JD at Center’s Election Night Party

From http://www.gaycenter.org/realworld RSVP now for your opportunity to meet MTV Real World Brooklyn housemates at the Center this Friday, March 20th at 6:30pm. Housemate JD Ordonez interned at the Center doing advocacy work that focused on the Center’s Promote the Vote initiative that registered thousands of marginalized individuals in communities throughout New York City. The work culminated in an election night party that drew a huge crowd, including JD’s housemates. Spoiler – Obama wins. JD and his housemates are now members of the Center. The Center welcomes back former Center intern and Center Member JD Ordonez with a cocktail reception on Friday, March 20.  RSVP now!

The Center is happy to welcome back Center Member and former intern JD Ordonez.  JD spent three months interning at the Center as our Advocacy Intern, and made a profound impact in several of the Center’s policy programs, including organizing our Election Night Party in November!

As a follow up to the Center’s sold out February 11th launch party, in which cast members Katelynn, Scott and Baya hosted the Center’s first appearance on the “Real World: Brooklyn,” we are thrilled to welcome back Baya and Scott and now bring JD “back to the Center” too.

Friday, March 20th, come to the Center for an open bar cocktail reception with raffles and prizes, mingle with the “Real World” Cast, and hear JD speak about his “Real World” experience and why the Center inspired him to give so much of his time to support the Center’s expansive life changing programs and services for the LGBT community.

MTV Real World Brooklyn’s Katelynn at Gender Identity Project Web Launch

From http://www.gaycenter.org/out The Center launched a new website for the Gender Identity Project or GIP at http://www.genderidentityproject.org/ MTV Real World Brooklyn housemate Katelynn Cusanelli interned at the Center and contributed her tech expertise to the construction of the new GIP website. Several housemates joined her to congratulate her efforts. The new GIP site includes profiles of individuals active in the transgender community, services GIP offers and a calendar of upcoming events. The site also features an online educational tool, Transgender Basics, with a glossary of terms, a video and employment information. Laverne Cox, who introduces this clip, is in the Transgender Basics video, was also on VH1’s I Want to Work for Diddy and is a long standing trans activist and Out at the Center host.
