Although not always portrayed as an LGBT issue, immigration law greatly impacts the lives of LGBT and HIV-positive people. Exclusion and marginalization are no strangers to the queer community and many of the arguments levied against immigrants have also been used to undermine LGBT people. Immigration law impacts all aspects of queer culture: the partners we love, the families we choose, the literature we absorb and the art that affects us. Most importantly immigration is changing the complexion of our community. This month our programs will highlight the significance of Immigration in the LGBT community politically, socially and culturally.

	3rd Annual LGBT Immigrant Fair & Cultural Event Wednesday, April 13, 2011 4 PM Declared an official annual celebration by Mayor Bloomberg, Immigrant Heritage Week honors the experiences and contributions of immigrants in New York City. In the spirit of the 8th annual Immigrant Heritage week, the Center’s Immigrant Services Program will be hosting the only LGBTQ immigration fair where providers that serve the LGBTQ immigrant community of New York City.  More info >>

At a time when federal, state, and local elections are often decided by small voting margins and with candidates frequently locked in ferocious competition for the ballots of “voting blocs” that might turn the electoral tide in their favor, one growing bloc of voters are immigrants. While binational couples have been the primary focus of the LGBT community, the reality is that LGBT immigrants and their families experience a much broader set of challenges in navigating the broken immigration system. 	Center Visual Arts presents Surveying the Immigrant Experience Art Exhibition Wednesday, April 27, 2011 Opening Reception 6PM This exhibition showcases artists currently living and working in New York City representing 25 different countries of origin.
