Scope and Content
This collection is made up mostly of journals and erotic drawings. The journals cover Fishlyn's adolescence at Miss Edgar's and Miss Cramp's School, Westmount, Quebec, and Phillips Academy, Andover, MA, in the early 1980s, the early 1990s in San Francisco (what Fishlyn describes as her "early leatherdyke days"), her involvement in the lesbian S&M zine Brat Attack, the 1992 Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, a 1994 leather convention in New York City, and 1994 New York Gay Pride and Stonewall Anniversary. The large majority of the drawings are black pen on paper, with a few in graphite or colored pencil. They range from 9" x 3" to 12" x 15" and are sorted by size. Drawings include comics and artwork for Brat Attack, illustrations for sex how-to books, contributions to other magazines, and sketches. Most of the artwork's content is lesbian S&M and leather erotica, though there is some straight and gay male images. Also with the collection is a high school yearbook for Miss Edgar's and Miss Cramp's School (1982-1983), where Fishlyn graduated as Thia Fuller. This collection would be of great interest to a person researching lesbian erotic artwork, lesbian S&M and leather, or zines from the 1990s.
Bio
Zeph Fishlyn was born Cynthia Fuller and raised in Quebec, Canada. She published a lesbian S&M zine, Brat Attack, in the 90s and illustrated eight feminist sex education books before branching into more interactive and collaborative artwork. She received her BFA from California College of the Arts in 2006, specializing in kinetic and interactive works. She makes her living as a tattoo artist.
