Scope and Content

The majority of the content is newsletters to Petalouthas members describing upcoming events, as well as organizational meetings and news. Included is a small selection of advertisements for Petalouthas placed in various publications. There is also a felt Petalouthas banner, which has been moved to the Centers misc realia box.
The collection also includes correspondence related to the book American Aphrodite: Becoming Female in Greek America by Constance Callinicos and a selection of newsletters, flyers, and articles from the Greek Gay & Lesbian Association (GGALA) established in 1993 in New York City.


History or Bio

Petalouthas, which means "butterflies" in Greek, was established in 1987 for professional Greek gay women in New York City. There logo is a butterfly. The organization disbanded in the early 1990s and included approximately 50 members.
