Second Tuesdays

Second TuesdaysCreated in 1985, the Second Tuesdays Lecture Series is the Center’s longest running cultural program, bringing prominent speakers from the arts, politics and academia to discuss issues relevant to the LGBT community.

Our Second Tuesdays Lecture Series has led to the birth of extraordinary advocacy and activist organizations. The March 1987 lecture, when guest speaker Larry Kramer spoke about the devastating plight of the AIDS crisis, was the founding meeting of ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power).

Speakers have included voices as diverse as poets Allen Ginsberg and Audre Lorde; political figures Geraldine Ferraro and David Dinkins; authors Joan Nestle and Michael Cunningham; playwrights Edward Albee and Paula Vogel; choreographer Bill T. Jones; and activists Eric Rofes and Leslie Feinberg.
