The LGBT Foster Care Project

Below is a list of upcoming events for youth, parents, professionals and individuals considering becoming foster care or adoptive parents.

  • The NYFC Spirit Award is a $10,000 educational scholarship that seeks to honor a young person in foster care who is attending a two year or four year college or university, has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills, and is willing to represent the opinions of youth in foster care as a representative to the Board of NYFC.   • If your child is in the Foster Care System, The Child Welfare Organizing Project (CWOP) Road to Success program can help you get a college education. If you’ve ever been the subject of an ACS investigation, had children in the system, or been in a preventive services program, you are eligible to apply. If you are now a parent, but spent time in the system as a child, or are a kinship foster parent, you may also apply. For more details contact: Gemma at 212-348-3000.

  • The National Resource Center for Permanency and Family Connections (NRCPFC) and AdoptUsKids will be hosting a series of teleconferences around LGBTQ adoption and foster parenting, as well as LGBTQ youth in care.   • PFLAG for Families of Color and Allies in New York City promotes the health and well-being of LGBTQ persons and their families and friends through support, advocacy and education. (PFLAG FCA, NYC) meets the 1st Sunday of every month from 1 – 3 PM at the LGBT Community Center
