The LGBT Center has partnered with NYC Children’s Services/ACS to implement the LGBT Foster Care Project. The LGBT Foster Care Project has drawn from many expert sources in the fields of child welfare and LGBT foster care and adoption. These sources include the LGBT Foster Care Coalition and the ACS LGBT Action Group.
The outline and benchmarks of the LGBT Foster Care Project are largely a blend from two major resources. They are the CWLA Best Practice Guidelines and HRC – All Children All Families National Campaign. Completion of the Foster Care Project will offer agencies a solid foundation for participation in the HRC – ACAF National Campaign. The HRC – ACAF is committed to permanency by advancing equality for foster and adoptive parents from the LGBT community.
We would also like to acknowledge the following resources that have informed our work:
CWLA/Lambda Legal (Moving the Margins) and the “Getting Down to Basics” toolkit (www.lambda.org)
National Center for Lesbian Rights (Creating Inclusive Systems of Care for LGBT Youth) developed by OHYAC/NCLR
PFLAG for Families of Color.
Washington State Department of Social and Health Services/Children’s Administration (“We are GLBT” training DVD and booklet). http://www.dshs.wa.gov
