A Message from Glennda Testone, Executive Director
Last weekend, I was privileged to join over 150 riders, crew and volunteers on a bike ride from Boston to New York City, all in an effort to raise funds for the Center's crucial HIV and AIDS-related services and programs. And raise funds we did - $470,853 and counting!
Words seem inadequate to describe this emotional, life-changing journey, but somehow our riders have captured the spirit of the weekend more beautifully than I could ever have hoped to. I'm sharing their sentiments with you to provide just a tiny window into the experience of the ride, and hope that you will join me in congratulating every amazing person who gave their all and crossed that finish line.
I'd also like to give a special thank you to our sponsor, Google, and to Cycle for the Cause's top fundraiser, Team Eagle. We couldn't have done it without you!

Romaine Patterson, of Sirius XM OutQ's Derek and Romaine Show
Not many people know it, but I set my fundraising goal at $100,000 this year for a reason. Growing up, my brother Michael had a white board of life goals in his bedroom and one of them was to make $100,000 a year. |
| Michael never made it to that goal; AIDS robbed me and my family of him when he was only 36.Since I'm not one to take no for an answer, I decided to make that goal a reality and bring in $100,000 for Cycle for the Cause in Michael's name.
I'm proud to say that my team, Team Outspoken, exceeded expectations. We raised $106,450 for the Center's HIV and AIDS-related services.
Romaine didn't stop there; click to continue reading her story. |

Jeff Adams, Rider 80 and "The Caboose"
"Oh *!@#%, it's the caboose!"
This was my typical greeting during Cycle for the Cause. Besides being a rider, I was the "caboose" for the three-day journey from Boston to New York. The job of the caboose is twofold: First, to mark the end of the ride so that the crew would know when all the riders had passed, and second, to provide support and encouragement to those at the back of the ride. |
After hearing this a few times during days one and two, I got up and spoke at dinner Saturday night to let people know that it wasn't a bad thing to be at the end. I even encouraged them to stop by and hang out with me for a bit in this pressure-free zone that was filled with determination, pretty good conversation and music from my very eclectic iPhone playlist.
Don't miss the "tail end" of this story; read more about Jeff the Caboose! |
