Ben, former GIP policy intern:
"Working with the GIP provided me with professional experience, a supportive network, and a strong sense of purpose as a community member and activist."
Gender Identity Project (GIP) Services
The GIP offers a range of transgender-driven supportive services, advocacy, outreach, education and capacity-building. We combine our own life experiences with practical training to provide you with individual, couples, and group counseling, as well as information and referral services, community forums, and professional education. We provide an opportunity for trans-identified individuals to interact with other trans-identified and allied service providers, who serve as both powerful role models as well as supportive agents in the process of normalizing a person’s trans-identity. The GIP creates a safe and productive atmosphere for community-building, wellness and self-care, and leadership development. Our helping peers and professionals understand "trans" from the inside out.

Health Care Provider Directory Now Available
The first-ever public directory of transgender-sensitive health care providers in the New York City metropolitan area is now available for download. The directory, a project of the Transgender Health Initiative of New York, and spearheaded by Health Initiative founding member NYAGRA, includes listings of physicians, mental health professionals, acupuncturists, and AIDS agencies as well as other health care providers. Up until now, community members could access transgender-sensitive physicians and other health care providers through referrals from social service providers, but there has never been a published directory of such health care providers available to the general public. Download the directory now!
