Gender Identity Project (GIP): Is GIP Right for Me?

Gender Identity Project (GIP)

Is GIP right for you? Find out!

  • I want to connect to the trans community in New York City. Where can I go to socialize with trans folks? The GIP offers regular opportunities to meet and greet in a space that's safe and fun. Many of our events also focus on education and activism. Check out our schedule of trans movie nights, coffee houses, forums and informational clinics or call us for more information.

  • I'm looking for a counselor to talk to, and I don't want to worry about being judged because I identify as genderqueer. Where can I go? Many of our counselors are trans-identified peers and peer-professionals, and all of our counselors are sensitive and savvy to trans issues. If you're feeling depressed or stressed, and need to talk about gender identity, transition, relationships, or other pressing life issues, give us a call and make an appointment. Our counseling services are confidential and judgment free.

  • How about support groups? I'm in transition and sometimes I feel like I'm going it alone. Is there anyplace I can go to talk with other people like me in a confidential and supportive space? Our trans support groups cover a wide range of topics important to trans people, from early transition to post-transition, trans-couples to genderqueer identities and just about everything in between. Check our current group schedule and find out more about what our groups have to offer.

  • My partner is trans. Sometimes I feel invisible and I'm looking for support. Where can I go? We offer groups, events and counseling for partners of trans and gender different people. We recognize that partners of, and those that seek to partner with, trans-people are often overlooked and ignored. If you need to talk or looking for others for support or to socialize with give us a call and make an appointment, check out our current group schedule.

  • I need a doctor who will be sensitive to my gender identity and who will treat my trans-body with care. Do you have a list of names and numbers I could call? We offer trans-sensitive and savvy counseling and can also refer you to doctors, social service providers, and other professionals who have experience working with trans people and who will be sensitive to your needs. Give us a call to schedule an appointment to talk.

  • I'm a provider with trans-identified clients. I want to learn more about what it means to be trans and how to offer services to my clients. Do you provide any trainings for professionals who are working with the trans communities? We work hard to educate and inform professional counselors and other service providers, as well as the general public, on gender identity issues and the needs of the trans communities. We offer on and offsite presentations, educational support group sessions, workshops, and sensitivity trainings. Check our schedule of trans-care trainings or just give us a call - and get informed.
