About Life Coaching

This 4 part workshop series was developed by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of New York, in its Center CARE program, to assist gay, bisexual and trans men to more effectively address life transition issues, and related stressors, in order to achieve increased life satisfaction, promote health and well being and prevent or reduce risk for substance abuse, HIV, addiction relapse and other health problems.
The series is adapted from the Center’s evidence-based intervention for smoking cessation, Not Quite Ready to Quit, and incorporates best practices and evidence-based practices including using the stages of change along with motivational and cognitive behavioral approaches to changing behaviors, group support and other social support, in a gay affirmative setting.
This workshop series is presented as four weekly sessions, each session for 1 1/2 hours, and facilitated by two co-leaders who have some experience in group facilitation and health education and/or promotion. It is psycho-educational in approach and is not intended as professional treatment for substance abuse or mental health disorders.
This series is offered free-of-charge, though a screening, followed by a full-intake with a Center CARE staff member.
