Created 15 years ago to respond to attacks on gender and sexual
minorities from the Oregon Citizens Alliance, Basic Rights Oregon (BRO)
is a strong voice for gay rights in the state. Raising money to defeat
homophobic ballot measures and identifying new voters, BRO has been
dedicated to seeing that anti-gay efforts are defeated. Moreover,
BRO’s work affects the national struggle for gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender liberation. Working locally, BRO provides models for other
communities to emulate. To that end, BRO has repeatedly emphasized its
founding values of fairness, acceptance, democracy, and justice for all.
