Description
Four years ago, Details magazine published an offensive feature, “Gay or Asian?” that sparked nationwide protests. The Gay Asian and Pacific Islander Men of New York (GAPIMNY) responded to this article along with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAA D) and the Asian American Journalist Association (AA JA) by demanding an apology from Editor-in-Chief Daniel Peres. In response to the outcry from the lgbt community the magazine issued an apology and more marking a defining moment of progress in the community. In celebration of “Asian American Heritage Month,” the Center and GAPMINY will feature a program, “Gay or Asian?” to discuss the evolution and progress of gay Asian and Pacific Islander men’s images in media and in society. Reception 6PM, Program 7PM.
