Family Planning Advocates of NY State

Mission:
To advance public policies that fulfill the rights of individuals to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services and education that are consistent with principles of justice and fairness and respect diversity, personal dignity and privacy.

Family Planning Advocates of New York State is a non-profit statewide
membership organization dedicated to protecting and expanding access to
a full range of reproductive health services. FPA represents and is
primarily funded by New York's Planned Parenthood affiliates, with
additional support from member family planning clinics and dozens of
sister organizations, as well as thousands of individual members across
the state.

With full-time, year round
headquarters in Albany, FPA actively engages in policy analysis,
legislative work, coalition building and educational efforts. FPA
conducts field activities across New York State, helping to build
coalitions and stimulate pro-choice grassroots organizing. On behalf of
its members, FPA communicates with the Governor's Office and state
agencies, especially the Department of Health, to promote reproductive
health services and works to guide member organizations through the
uncertainties of a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Originally established in 1977 as a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization,
FPA later expanded its outreach and public education efforts. In 1987
FPA established the Education Fund of FPA,
a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, because FPA’s Albany-based efforts
to shape progressive state policies depend upon an informed, organized
and involved citizenry.

The Education Fund's
activities are dedicated to informing individuals, organizations,
communities and policymakers about the importance of ensuring universal
access to a full range of reproductive health care services. The
Education Fund’s extensive educational efforts include publishing fact
sheets, newsletters, articles and guides; producing educational videos;
conducting informational workshops and training sessions; providing
speakers and panelists for regional, state and national conferences;
maintaining a website; and responding to requests for information from
throughout the state and nation.
