Each cyclist raises a minimum contribution of $3,500. Over the last five
years the riders have raised well over 1 million dollars for the Center.
“There is
symbolism in where we start and end the ride,” said Richard Burns, the Center’s executive director. “Riders will declare their own battle
against AIDS when they push off for their first 100-mile leg of the ride from
one of the most famous battlegrounds in American history. Until there is a cure
for AIDS, education and public awareness campaigns like this one are essential
in saving lives.”
Since the
Center’s inception in 1983, tens of thousands of New Yorkers with HIV or AIDS
have benefited from organization’s services through its Center CARE program:
-
The Center provides more than 1,800 counseling and group sessions
annually to people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.
-
More than 1,000 teenagers attend prevention leadership training each
year.
-
Another 3,000 citizens attend the Center’s World AIDS Day vigils.
-
And thousands more attend educational forums and conferences.
The services
are available to people of all income levels. For information, contact Center
