NEW YORK, NY - The New York City Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Community Center will honor actor Cherry Jones and corporate leader Sally Susman at their annual gala dinner, Women's Event 10, on November 3, 2007.
Supported by Presenting Sponsor IBM, the evening will also feature a cocktail reception, seated dinner, silent auction and midnight dessert and dancing.
Cherry Jones will be the Outspoken Community Leader Honoree. Jones, one of stage and film's most esteemed actors, is a longtime advocate for LGBT rights. In 1995 she made theatre history when she thanked her same-sex partner on national television during her acceptance speech for the Best Actress Tony Award for The Heiress. Jones earned a second Tony in 2005 for her performance in Doubt. She has appeared in many plays and films over the past 25 years, including Angels in America, The Horse Whisperer, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, and The Perfect Storm. This winter, Jones joins the cast of Fox's "24" as the series' first female U.S. President.
Sally Susman will be the Corporate Leader Honoree. Susman is Executive Vice President for Global Communications at The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., and is responsible for communications strategy, media relations, employee communications and consumer relations. Previously, Susman held several
high-level posts at American Express Company. Susman is a Trustee of
Connecticut College and a Commissioner on the New York City Commission on Women's Issues. She serves on the boards of directors of the Parsons School of Design and The National Partnership for Women and Families. In addition, actress Bonnie Somerville will play Caitlin, a character inspired by Sally Susman, on the new ABC series "Cashmere Mafia," which debuts in late November.
Other sponsors include Diamond Sponsor The Estee Lauder Companies, Inc., as well as Citi, Credit Suisse, Fenwick Keats Goodstein, Lehman Brothers, and Merrill Lynch.

About the Center
Established in 1983, The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Community Center of New York City builds and supports our community through health, advocacy, and cultural programs; meeting and conference services; referrals and resources; and a safe and welcoming environment.
Our community support and encouragement leads to the long term incubation of other organizations (ACT-UP, GLAAD, Gay Men of African Descent and more); the development of our own pioneering projects, including The Pat Parker/Vito Russo Library, The National Gay and Lesbian Archives, and Center CARE Recovery, the first licensed LGBT-specific recovery center in the state; and the cross-pollination of the LGBT community and the general population’s political, government and non-profit organizations, such as Causes in Common, our association of LGBT and reproductive rights groups.
More than 6,000 New Yorkers pass through out doors each week (14 hours a day, seven days a week year-round) to relax in our garden, attend a concert or lecture, evaluate the latest advocacy issues, seek counseling, or simply check their email at the David Bohnett Cyber Center. Three hundred organizations – from singles groups to political clubs to twelve-step programs – make the Center their home.
