The Center announced today that six girls from the cast of Spring Awakening will be performing a song from the Tony Award winning show, while honoring and maintaining the gender-bending concept of Broadway Backwards 3. Broadway stars will come together for a gender-bending concert featuring show tune favorites on Monday, February 4, 2008. Broadway Backwards 3 (BB3) will showcase a diverse cast of male singers performing songs traditionally performed by female singers, and vice versa, with all proceeds benefiting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Community Center in New York City.
For two years, the theatre community has demonstrated its support for the Center with this one-night-only, star-studded Broadway benefit concert. The evening features classic show tunes with a twist -in past years Betty Buckley delivered a tender rendition of "Some Enchanted Evening" from South Pacific, while Richard Kind sang "Ulla's Song" from The Producers. And who can forget Matt Cavenaugh and Cheyenne Jackson's performance of "We Kiss in a Shadow," named Best Dynamic Duet of 2006 by Playbill.
For the third installment of Broadway Backwards, the Center heads to Times Square and the Great White Way, as the event is presented at the Roundabout Theatre Company's American Airlines Theatre on 42nd Street. Creator Robert Bartley returns as director, Mark Janas once again serves as musical director, and Seth Rudetsky hosts. The Center also welcomes John Kander and Terrence McNally as event co-chairs.
Interview / Photo Opportunities: Select performers will be available for interview, please inquire to contacts above. High-resolutions photos are also available. Photographers are welcome for arrivals and at the after-party, please RSVP to David Henderson or Cathy Renna.

About the Center
Established in 1983, The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT) Community Center of New York City builds and supports our community through health, advocacy, and cultural programs; meeting and conference services; referrals and resources; and a safe and welcoming environment.
Our community support and encouragement leads to the long term incubation of other organizations (ACT-UP, GLAAD, Gay Men of African Descent and more); the development of our own pioneering projects, including The Pat Parker/Vito Russo Library, The National Gay and Lesbian Archives, and Center CARE Recovery, the first licensed LGBT-specific recovery center in the state; and the cross-pollination of the LGBT community and the general population’s political, government and non-profit organizations, such as Causes in Common, our association of LGBT and reproductive rights groups.
More than 6,000 New Yorkers pass through out doors each week (14 hours a day, seven days a week year-round) to relax in our garden, attend a concert or lecture, evaluate the latest advocacy issues, seek counseling, or simply check their email at the David Bohnett Cyber Center. Three hundred organizations – from singles groups to political clubs to twelve-step programs – make the Center their home.
