Description

Break the Silence! Community Vigil in Memory of Lawrence King and other LGBTQ Youth Victims of Violence - Friday, April 25 - 6PM to 8PM - Christopher Street Park, Manhattan

Join LGBTQ/allied youth, providers & others in honoring the lives of all LGBTQ youth victims of violence by coming together for this vigil event, in order to raise awareness that will work towards fostering acceptance, understanding & inclusion in our schools, families, foster homes, places of worship, public spaces and all places that should be safe and welcoming for all youth. The vigil will occur on the national Day of Silence, which occurs in schools across the country every year as a means to bring visibility to the violence and harassment affecting queer & gender non-conforming youth, which last month tragically resulted in the murder of 15 year-old Lawrence King in his California school.

This event is being organized and supported by Safe Horizon, the New York City Anti-Violence Project, GLSEN, the New York Civil Liberties Union, SCO Family of Services, the Ali Forney Center, Hispanic AIDS Forum, the LGBT Community Center, the Hetrick-Martin Institute and others.
