Begins at Foley Square Park, Manhattan
5 PM Braking the Cycle Closing Ceremony
The Center
208 West 13th Street (in front of the Center)
At noon on September 26th near City Hall, thousands of New Yorkers will stand up for equality by marching across the Brooklyn Bridge in the 7th NYC Wedding March. The march, rally and community festival is organized by Marriage Equality New York to raise awareness about the 1,324 rights denied to same-sex couples and their families because of a lack of marriage equality – rights only bestowed by civil marriage that cannot be replicated by civil unions or domestic partnerships.
The event is a collaboration of over 30 community organizations, including the Center, HRC, ESPA, GLAAD and MCCNY – and
individuals like Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Speaker Christine Quinn.
Register for the march today at www.meny.us/march and walk for your rights!
After the Wedding March, head to West 13th Street to cheer on the Braking the Cycle riders at the Closing Ceremony!
Braking the Cycle is a three-day bike ride from Boston to NYC that benefits the HIV/AIDS services of the Center. More than 120 riders will bike nearly 300 miles to raise funds for the important life-saving services at the Center.
We are pleased to announce that Chely Wright will host the Braking the Cycle Closing Ceremony!
Country singer/songwriter Chely Wright recently released her seventh album, Lifted off the Ground, on the same day as her new autobiography, Like Me. Wright has made her name as a commercial country singer, recording such modern-day classics as "Single White Female," "Shut Up and Drive” and “Jezebel.”
At 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 26th, loved ones, family and supporters will gather outside on West 13th Street in front of the Center to welcome back the riders and more than 50 volunteer crew members who supported them for 300 miles! This important ride has raised more than $2 million dollars for the Center over the past seven years. Join us on the steps of the Center to cheer on the Braking the Cycle riders!
The program will begin at 5:00 PM, then we’ll continue the celebration inside the Center with a Victory Party and light refreshments.
