Get Started Running Program
The “Get Started” program is designed for those individuals who have never run before or who have not run in a very long time and would like a structured introduction to get in shape without getting injured along the way.
We will start with very gentle workouts combining walking and running. Your body is given ample time to adapt to running over the entire 12-week program. There are never any stopwatches or timing, just a supportive and safe environment as we build to our goal of running 5 miles continuously. While that may seem like a lofty goal for someone who’s never run before, it is indeed very realistic and attainable within the structured environment of our group workouts.
Our goal event will be the New York Road Runners Club and Front Runner’s sponsored 5-mile road race in Central Park, coincides with the final week of the program. Participation in the goal event is not required for participation in the program but serves as an additional motivator for those interested. We will of course be there with you on race day for total support and encouragement, so that for what may be your first race event ever will be both a fun and positive experience, said Ector Simpson, the Center’s Director of Cultural Programs.
In addition to our twice weekly meetings, we will also have an on-line discussion forum where you have 24/7 access to the coaches. This is also a great tool for us to keep in contact with you and a place where the coaches can post your between class ‘homework’. All participants will receive a Jack Rabbit tech performance t-shirt.
Fee: $174
Days/Times: Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30PM and Saturdays from 9:30-10:30AM
Dates: Tuesday, April 8, through Saturday, June 28. 12 weeks (No class May 24 for Memorial Day)
Coach: Jack Frost
Location: Class will meet at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center at 208 West 13th Street, just west of Seventh Avenue, and the majority of our workouts will take place on the West Side running path.
