FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK, NY - The New York City Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community Center celebrates the 20th anniversary of Dr. Barbara Warren’s innovative work for the Center’s vital healthcare programs and services.
Under Dr. Warren’s direction, mental health and human services came to life 20 years ago for the first time at the Center. These include Project Connect, one of the country’s first LGBT-specific alcohol and drug prevention programs; YES (Youth Enrichment Services); the Center Bridge bereavement program; the Gender Identity Project and many more. These programs were developed in direct response to the needs of the community.
“Barbara’s work has helped literally tens of thousands of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to recover from life’s most difficult problems, take back control of their lives and believe in their dreams again. I can’t think of anyone who deserves to be celebrated more.” – Richard Burns, Executive Director, LBGT Community Center
