GLAAD and the Center to Host Screening of New Comedy The Perfect Family with Star Kathleen Turner
Screening set for May 1, 2012, to be followed by panel discussion and cocktail reception
New York, NY, April 27, 2012 - GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, the world's second largest LGBT Center will host a screening of The Perfect Family on May 1, 2012 followed by a panel discussion with the film’s star, Kathleen Turner.
The film follows a conservative homemaker (Turner) whose plan to win a Catholic Woman of the Year award is complicated by her daughter (Bones' Emily Deschanel) simultaneously coming out the closet and announcing her engagement to her partner. Costarring Jason Ritter, Sharon Lawrence, and Richard Chamberlain, The Perfect Family will open in theaters on May 4.
Joining actress Kathleen Turner for a panel discussion will be the film's director, Anne Renton, and Auburn Theological Seminary's Media Director, Macky Alston, who premiered his latest film, Love Free or Die, at the Sundance Film Festival this January. GLAAD's President, Herndon Graddick, will moderate.
"This film explores a situation that plays out in American households with increasing frequency, in which family members learn to reconcile their religious convictions with the love they feel for an LGBT relative," said Graddick. "We hope it will spark a dialogue in audiences."
The screening, panel discussion and cocktail reception will be held at The LGBT Center (208 West 13th Street, New York City) on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 7:00pm.
