Why We Ride…

• The Center provides more than 1,800 counseling and group sessions to LGBT people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

• More than 1,000 LGBT youth attend HIV prevention and support activities and leadership training.

• Starting in fall 2012, the Center will become an HIV testing site, providing a limited number of quick oral testing and follow-up confirmatory blood tests.

• The Center's Newly Diagnosed HIV Positive Group helps people who have just learned that they are living with HIV to find strength and support through community connection.

• The Center Recovery Program's Positive in Recovery support group is one of the only support groups in the state that works with LGBT HIV positive clients working towards sobriety.

• The Center works with LGBT HIV positive immigrants to help them connect to a supportive community to reduce isolation and share important resources.

• The Center has a representative on the New York City HIV Planning Group to assist with policy creation, advocacy, and be a voice for LGBT people.

• The Center's Gender Identity Project is the first transgender peer counseling and empowerment program in New York State and works to reduce rates of HIV transmission through support groups, counseling, and community outreach events.

• Each year the Center Youth Program holds an annual health fair to connect LGBT youth to culturally component primary medical care and receive HIV testing and counseling if desired.

• The Center Families program offers support for HIV positive parents and provides information, resources, and referrals to HIV positive gay men who wish to become biological parents.

Looking for a Few Good Crew!

Crew Sign Up

There are still a few spots open to crew on Cycle for the Cause 2012. We are looking for people to join the Sweep and Rejuvenation Station Teams, and folks with driver's licenses. Being a crew member on the ride is such a rewarding experience. You will spend all three days with the cyclists along the ride, helping the riders in many different ways. Please note that crew members are required to raise a minimum of $500 in order to participate.

For more information, and to volunteer for crew, contact Amanda DeMeester at ademeester@gaycenter.org or 646-358-1772.
