Description

Actor/author Prudence Wright Holmes performs her one-woman show, based on the life of the legendary lesbian author. A courageous pioneer of the LGBT community, Cather dared to dress like a man in a small Nebraska town in the 1890’s. She was almost expelled from The University of Nebraska for it--and her love affair with her classmate, Louise Pound. She went on to have a successful career writing novels like “My Antonia “and “Death Comes for the Archbishop”. Unlucky in love, Cather’s heart was broken by her soul mate and benefactor, Isabelle McClung, but Cather soldiered on, winning a Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1923. As she always said, “Being a woman never damaged my ambition to be Pope or Emperor.”
