Description
RECEPTION 6PM, PROGRAM 7PM. This is the third and final installment of the Center Classics Opera series. We will explore Amahl and the Night Visitors. This enchanting one act chamber opera by Gian Carol Menotti is perhaps the most frequently performed opera in the U.S. and was first heard on television at the NBC Television Opera Theatre in New York City on December 21, 1951. It is the story of a poor and sickly young boy, Amahl, who lives at the time of the Nativity. On their way to visit the child-king whose birth was foretold, the Three Kings find shelter for a night with Amahl and his Mother. The cast will include various soloists, including a boy soprano, chorus of shepherds and chamber orchestra.
