Out at The Center - March 2009 Edition

Hosted by Mimi Gonzalez, the Center’s half-hour TV show opens with a trip to Albany to ask New York State senators for their support on marriage equality. Former Center executive director Richard Burns sits down with former Center board member Diana Leo to talk about his first years at the Center at the height of the AIDS crisis. Sarah Schulman speaks with Martin Duberman about Radical Acts, a collection of four of his political plays. Catherine Opie explains her photography work. We visit a cocktail party for pets. And look at highlights from 25 years of Dance 208.

Mimi Gonzalez
Hailing from the Motor City and feeling pre-disposed to all things automotive, Mimi’s full-time road career began in 1998 and she is going strong. Mimi answers the call of the U.S. armed forces by making our troops laugh in Afghanistan, Baghdad, Bosnia, Kosovo, Korea, Japan and Guam.

She got her start in television on the “Today” show as the “Funniest Person on Wall Street.” Since then, she’s been on “Ellen,” “Women Aloud,” “Que Loco,” “Funny is Funny,” and “Latino Laugh Festival.” Mimi’s even spent a month on-air as a morning-show co-host for a Clear Channel radio station in New York.

You can catch Mimi's act in Provincetown, Michigan and elsewhere this summer, check her website for details at: www.mimigonzalez.com
