Chandler BurrThe Young Leaders Council is pleased to invite you to attend a Private Six Course Dinner & Master-Class in Scent with Chandler Burr to Benefit the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center.

November 22, 2009

Working with the master chefs at the iconic Four Seasons Restaurant, Chandler Burr, the New York Times scent critic, will host an interactive master-class in scent, pairing the scents of les parfums gourmands -- the great culinary-based perfumes and their raw elements -- with a world-class six course dinner.

Each course echoes a scent chosen by Chandler: elements of vanilla, cinnamon, bergemont -- as well as
synthetic elements used by perfumers to mimic bread, salt, smoke flavors -- even cotton candy. This extraordinary, interactive experience is a fascinating journey that takes attendees through the history and artistry of perfume and brings a new appreciation for the link between scent and taste.

Burr has collaborated on these dinners with renowned chefs from across the globe, including, among many others, Paul Liebrandt, Jimmy Sakatos of the Carlyle Hotel, Martin Rios, Samuel Benne at Laperouse in Paris, and Vito Mollica of the Four Seasons Florence.

A Community Conversation with New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn

The YLC's inaugural event with Speaker Christine Quinn was a huge success as around 70 young members of the LGBT community visited the Center for an intimate conversation with the Speaker. Speaker Quinn candidly addressed timely questions from an enthusiastic audience on topics ranging from transgender rights, facilities for homeless LGBT youth, police conduct, marriage equality in New York State and elsewhere, how to politically engage young LGBT New Yorkers, NYC infrastructure, the city's budget and taxes, mayoral and city council term limits and LGBT teachers and hate crimes in schools.

The Council extends its gratitude to the Speaker and her staff for producing an event that actively reached one of the YLC's core goals: To more actively engage our younger LGBT demographic on topics and issues that affect our entire community. The Speaker advised the younger LGBT demographic on various ways to become more active, including encouraging individuals to participate in a letter writing campaign to undecided or moveable New York Senators on the pending state marriage equality bill.

The Council is excited to continue to work with the Speaker's office on future political and social initiatives.
