At the YES program we believe everyone has a right to creative self-expression, uncensored. We provide plenty of opportunities for young people to get involved in the creative arts, to work with guest artists from the community, and to participate in cultural events through field trips. YES members can enroll in all kinds of hands-on workshops including visual arts workshops and creative writing workshops facilitated by guest artists and YES staff. Some other special arts programs include we have going on are:

Artist/Activist Institute - a collaboration with Dance Theater Workshop (DTW), providing young people in YES the opportunity to work with professional artists in performance and dance. Youth work with a resident artist introducing them to a range of choreographers, spoken word artists, performers, playwrights, and other artists engaged in social justice movements and progressive social change.

Youth Pride Chorus - a collaboration with the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus where participants learn choral music in weekly rehearsals and perform in concerts here at the Center and on the road. Auditions for the Youth Pride Chorus are held in September and January.
