Safe Schools Internship
What is Safe Schools? We’re a group of student leaders working to end hate, homophobia, and transphobia in schools by starting Gay Straight Alliances and other student groups.
Who Are We?
- We are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Straight.
- We are high school students.
- We are leaders.
- We are constantly learning and developing our skills, networking with people like us, and supporting each other through weekly meetings at the Center.
- We are people who know that we're in this together.
What do we want?
We want to get the word out that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ) youth are not always treated as we should be. We want you to know we understand that you don't have to identify as LGBTQ to be a target of homophobia and transphobia.
We want to get all LGBTQ youth and our allies together to step forward when something isn’t right and say, "We want it changed!"
What Is This For?
It’s for you to join us in knowing that you're not alone! There are hundreds of us in the US making school a safer place. This program was created by the youth of YES for all other youth who need some kind of outlet. This is our outlet. The fact that you’re reading this right now says that you’ve taken the first of many fulfilling steps to work for change. It's important to acknowledge that, because there are no steps too small in this process. We congratulate you for taking this one.
Safe Schools is a place for you to explore, get your questions answered, and get the information you need to take action in your school.
